Welcome to the only blog around that document the real journey from zero and financial freedom. We all know that it makes money to make money and that getting off the ground is the hardest part. This is why I came up with the idea of the #Roadto$480K challenge. I’m hoping that this blog can provide a replicable blueprint to that elusive first pot of gold
I’m just a normal guy (late 20s) in a high cost of living city (ranked second least affordable city in all of North America) working an average job. As described in the Author page, I will be journaling my road to a $480,000 portfolio in $40,000 blocks. My goal is to get there in 3 years from the reboot of this blog in April 2021. Aggressive I know. But who doesn’t like a good challenge. #Roadto480
When I first came up with this idea, I had the image of a grandmaster in chess doing a speedrun to get his elo score from 800 to 3000. But this progression from block to block is, perhaps not unexpected, rather slow. I welcome you to not only follow my journey, but also start your own #Roadto480 challenge.
Timeline (i.e. proof is in the pudding)
Beginning ($nil) – January 1, 2019
- Basically used all my savings as down-payment for my condo so I’m starting from zero.
Block 1 ($40,000) achieved- December 31, 2020
- The first $40K took a while. Who knew living by yourself is so expensive. During 2019, my condo also got flooded so had to pay for some renovations. At this time, I knew I had to get my financial house in order and started this blog, so I have some good old accountability in my life.
Block 2 ($80,000) achieved – July 2, 2021
- Covid has really limited my spending, thereby allowing me to put extra funds into the portfolio. I must say, the increase has primarily came through contributions from my savings. Hoping market returns can contribute a larger portion to the next block.
Block 3 ($120,000) ongoing – targeting Nov/Dec
